You
may have spotted Father Time-a.k.a. Paul Pagano-- at
festivals, sporting events and area parades decked out
in festive threads to match the occasion. Now the local

WHEN DID YOU BECOME FATHER
TIME?
After the passing of patriotic songstress Kate Smith in 1985, I
combined the costume idea of the folklore character "Father Time"
with "God Bless America". I decorated my bus and set it
up to play seasonal music. Since then I've been Father Time.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
I'm a retired produce merchant. I had routes from North County down
to Bevo. I used to take my bus to events until the bus no longer
passed inspection a few years ago.
WHERE DID YOU
GROW UP?
I have lived in St.Louis my whole life. I grew up at Jefferson and
Cass, and I now live in Overland with my second wife of 10 years
and have seven grown children.
WHERE HAVE
YOU APPEARED?
I've appeared at events from Fair Saint Louis, to the Valley of
the Flowers, to Hermann Mo. for Octoberfest. I've even gone all
the way to Milwaukee for the Italian festival, and I've also appeared
at the large Chicago Columbus Day parade.
WHY DO YOU
DO THIS?
It's like a job. No one has ever associated the figure "Father
Time" with "God Bless America." I'm helping people
make memories when I see them. In addition, I play over 50 songs
on my harmonica and as long as I stay healthy and able, I will be
doing this for a long time.
